STACC's work began
in September 1992. Mobile clinics were established to visit different
places within a day's journey of Freetown.
The work never stopped despite political upheavals, warfare
and destruction. Even when STACC's vehicles were trashed in the civil
war, the faithful staff risked their lives to carry medicines and supplies
for the treatment of sick and injured residents and refugees in Freetown.
Transport has now
been restored. STACC has developed a deworming programme for children attending
primary school. During the past year, 69,000 children have been enrolled
in the programme and treated to relieve them from the burden of disease caused
by hookworms, roundworms and whipworms.
